Tangible and Intangible Gifts for Between Shades of Gray

For this, the character I will be using is Elena Vilkas, otherwise known as Lina and Jonas' mother.

Gift Number One

I think a good gift for her would be happiness for her children, Lina and Jonas.

Elena is always trying to make sure that her children always have the most food, space, etc. She is always putting her children before her, as a mother would. She sacrifices so much for her children in the book, I think that it would be nice for her to know that her kids are happy. I feel like it would bring her some joy in this time of sorrow.

Gift Number Two

Another gift that I think would be good for Elena is a letter from Kostas.

Kostas is her husband, and she is always trying to send letters to anyone and everyone that she can. I think it would be nice for her if she received some word from him even if it's not in verbal form.

Gift Number Three

The third gift I'd give Elena would be a nice dinner for her and anyone she would like to invite (any amount of people, she can invite 2 people or 200 people). She has spent the last few years eating nothing but tiny bread rations, or the occasional potato or beet. I think it would bring her great joy to have one great meal with the people around her, just like they used to do.

Gift Number Four

The fourth gift that I would give Elena would be a spa day, yet again she can bring along anyone she wants. She has spent the last few years living in filth and being forced to work on farms, I feel like a nice spa day might be something that would cheer her up.

Gift Number Five

The final gift I would give her would be a dance lesson. If I could make this go away and made sure that everyone lived, I would give her a dance lesson. I think it could be something fun that she and Kostas could do together. They could go and get dinner and have a fun night of dancing.
